Well! It's high time we post something about what we've been up to, isn't it? Nathan finished classes March 9th, and it's been a party ever since! He was plumb worn out from the paper-writing, presentation-giving, and other OCCA-related things, that I do believe he slept a long time that Saturday morning. The workload has taken it's toll on him, since he has had a cold for quite a while now, so I pump him full of Orange Juice, and keep a supply of tissues in the room, for his 'unloading,' and he stays quite content with life. But it's been wonderful getting to see him and spend time with him again. He's been trying to stay in academic mode by reading very boring books and going to the library to be productive. I've offered to help do some "spring cleaning" around the Commonwealth House. I wipe scuff-marks off the wall, and make sure there's no dust on any ledges. A pretty easy task, that keeps me busy while Nathan is off being productive. But the very exciting part about our holiday so far is that we went on a trip! I don't know how many pictures I can put in one post, but I'm pretty sure it can't hold 800 pictures! So I'll try and outline the trip as best as I can with just a few of the pictures we have and then you can look at the rest of the pictures some other time. The problem with most of these pictures, is that I thought some building or place looked very pretty, but I don't know the name of it, so either I will make up a name, or I can find out for real.... It's up to you to decide if I'm being truthful or not! SO on with the show!
So our first stop on the trip was Budapest, Hungary. Now I'm sure you're saying to yourself, as I said to myself, why Budapest of all places? Well, it turns out, that it's quite the friendly place! Very tourist friendly, without being a tourist trap, lots to see, and lots to do! So we set off at 4 IN THE MORNING to the 'coach' station and took the 'coach (They mean BUS)' to Luton Airport. We fumbled through all the checkpoints until we got onto the plane. Nathan and I tried to pack as lightly as possible, so all we had were carry-on bags (one apiece) for a whole week. Needless to say, we were planning on re-wearing a few of the items we brought... We arrived at Budapest to a beautiful day! Sunshine and 60 degree weather! I was overdressed and pleased as punch. Our first task was to decide the cheapest way to get into the city and to our hotel. We discovered that Budapest transportation is not as prompt as English transportation, but finally, it arrived. We got on the bus to find out that the driver had no tickets to sell so we got on FOR FREE. All the way to the metro station. Here is a picture of our traveling buddies:
Justitia and Priscilla!
We get to the metro station, very unfamiliar with how the system works, so Priscilla marches up to one of the workers to ask, and he ushers us down to the platform, so we figure that means we buy them on the metro, but when we get on, there's nowhere to pay! So we rode the metro FOR FREE. We got out of the metro, looking particularly touristy, for we were attacked by vendors the minute they saw Priscilla's suitcases. So, as starving as we were, we walked straight away to our hotel room to check in and drop our stuff off. We asked the people at the desk where we could find authentic Hungarian food, and they directed us to Rose:
Where I bought Weinerschnitzel:
And Nathan got "Hungarian Pork":
After that we walked around a bunch and saw many different buildings, including Hungary's Parliament Building:
Found this guy along the way
Didn't know this was in Hungary!
Large advertisements everywhere, this is one of the more 'tame' ads.
Hungary's Parliament- A very impressive building, but we were too late to take the tour
Priscilla posing with one of the many statues we saw. I think this one has something to do with Communism?
A Theater building across from Parliament
Parliament is right along the Danube River, but I'm not sure what they're looking at...
The guys played along and did a jumping photo with me. It took six tries to get this one
Basilica in the sunset
The theater where watched Miss Saigon in Hungarian with English subtitles. Very impressive singing!
