Blessed beyond belief

We have been busy little beavers here in Texas! Does Texas have beavers? Maybe busy fire ants. I think they have those... Nathan is somehow keeping on top of his classwork and making some money while tutoring. I am so proud of him! He never complains, except when we play Scrabble, of course :-). And while he's running around, I am slowly getting the baby's things in order! Her bassinet is up, she has a proper light in her room, she has clothes washed and ready for wearing, I've been brushing up on lullabies to sing to her, and most importantly, I've been working on my cooking skills! No skinny babies, daddies, or mommies allowed! I have been trying to stock up the freezer as well, so when baby comes, Nate can just put food in the oven, and not have to take time away from his studying to cook. Too bad our freezer is so small, or I'd have enough food made to last until the Apocalypse! Hopefully it will last until my mom (to be titled Nan when the babe arrives) flies down here to take care of me when Nate has classes and work.
I've been going to my weekly doctor appointments, and so far, they've been really good! I feel healthy, and the babe seems to be happy to squirm inside. The only things she really keeps me from doing is being able to reach across counters and tables, because she's in the way! I try to limit my sugar intake, because, although I do not have gestational diabetes, sugar seems to make my heart race. Especially in the mornings! So sugary cereals for breakfast (hard boiled eggs, anyone?) and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch are a no-no for a while, but it's given me the opportunity to try my hand at soup making! The weather has cooled down enough to where soup is acceptable to eat, and you actually appreciate the warmth it gives off. I still make the occasional sweet, like apple pies, and the cheesecake I made for Nate's birthday. I just make sure Nate eats more of it than I do. Although, the chocolate chip cookies I made last night are definitely easier to snatch up without anyone the wiser...
We completed our child-birthing classes last week, which is an entry in itself, because things the you learn in child-birthing class, they don't teach you in school! You walk in the first time wide-eyed and unprepared, and by the end, you look at your spouse and you wonder, "it's too late to back out now, isn't it?" But that class will prepare you, and by the end of the eight-week course, you feel somewhat more confident, thinking, "hey, maybe I can pull this off!" We met some other great couples from that course, and even went to the Texas State Fair with a couple from the class, and had a great time! I'll have to post pictures sometime when I can steal Nate's computer away from him! We are supposed to have a reunion after everyone has their babies, and we're supposed to swap birthing stories, too. I hope all of us have positive stories to share, and nobody has too traumatic an experience! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again with their little bundles!
Sometimes, it's easier to see the Lord's hand in your life than at others. The Lord has definitely been good to us these past few months, and we've been amazed by how He's provided, not only for us, but for the baby as well. We didn't have a baby shower while we were on the East coast, because we were trying to pack lightly for the move, so we said thank-you to the kind offers, but resolved to try to make it on our own. My mom and my oldest sister came to visit in October and helped out with some necessities, like clothing and diapers, and we were thankful for that. We thought that would be enough to get us through. The amazing thing is that, the Lord didn't think so! As we settled down here and we got to know some of the other DTS families, and make friends at the church we attend, people reached out! They were offering baby things to us, left and right! We received a surprise shower from my bible study group, and then our West Virginia home church showered us with cards and blessings! We had no idea! We couldn't believe how many people wanted to reach out and help us out! Now we laugh and say, this baby has more clothes and goodies than Nate! So many people are praying for her and making things for her, and they haven't even met her yet! It's just a testament to The Lord using His people to make a difference in the lives of others. It's not always easy to swallow your pride and accept the good gifts from others as what they are-gifts-with no strings attached. It reminds me of the grace that comes from God. We don't earn our salvation, our heavenly reward, but it's a gift that we are offered, knowing that it cost a great deal to the One who gives it freely, with no strings attached. It's truly humbling! We are now, more ready than ever, to have this little girl join us on this side of my belly! I'm so excited for her to meet these wonderful people and have a first-hand experience of God's love through His Church!
